Answer to FAQ

Hello Mike,
From what you are telling me, it sounds like your computer is set to automatically dial whenever a request from your computer is recognized.  Which means that any online program can start the dialup.  Some of the programs that can cause this actions would be any
  • Anti Virus program that is set to look for updates.
  • Communication program, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, etc.
  • Browser: Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.
  • Online sharing programs: KaZaa, Morphus, Grokter, etc
It isn't necessarily OE that is causing the reconnect.  However, if OE has been set to turn on MSN or Windows messaging in the background and your computer is set to auto redial, that would cause the redial to happen.  Go and take a look at OE's Options. found under the Tools menu option.

Unless there is a reason why you want to disconnect after sending and receiving, the easiest way to solve the problem would be to turn off the disconnect feature in OE.   If you really need the system to stay disconnected the next step would be to find out what program is running in the background and take it out of your startup menu.

Hope this helps.
